Asian style!

My brother Bryan and his family came from Singapore over the summer to visit, it was great to get everyone together! He was very kind and got all the boys and girls (cousins included) some stylish gifts. The boys got matching hats with attached long ponytails and the girls got cute dresses. I was so excited to have McKayla wear her new dress to church, she looked so cute. I soon learned that the dresses are not made for very active, big, american girls. We were sitting at church and it didn't take long before she ripped some seams in the dress and the snaps fell off leaving the dress wide open in front, I had to take her home and change her dress!

Did school start?!

Just a quick post to show my big school kids. Kyler is now a fourth grader which makes him in the "older" grades so he gets to attend the second assemblies and is assigned a kindergarten buddy to show the ropes of the school. He is doing really well with his grades and is very responsible and friendly. Nathaniel is thrilled to be a second grader and has team teachers that split the day up. He loves going to school and cries when he has to come home early or stay home sick. He also is doing very well academically and tests very high for his age. Logan is doing a neighborhood preschool group in which the moms take turn teaching and loves going to his friends houses. He also is learning a lot and picks up quickly on what his brothers are learning in school, he definitely will be ready for kindergarten next year!

Love this picture of Kyler and Nathaniel, happy to be in the picture but no so much about being together!

Wow, a post on time? Halloween 2011!

I don't know why but I have our Halloween pictures ready to post, it is so unlike me. Of all the late posts I should be catching up on (including summer fun, family reunions, first day of school, and another 1/2 marathon) they will have to keep waiting until later! The boys came up with the idea for our costumes months ago and were so excited to have everyone in the family be apart of it. The plan unfolded as we became a game favorite Plants vs. Zombies! For those who don't know this game it is about zombies trying to get into the house and eat your brains, each zombie having something a little bit different about them. The way to defeat them is by planting different plants to kill the zombies and protect the house, all the while sunflowers give off power for the plants to grow.

Here is a cute music video for the game:

So without further wait, our version of Plants vs. Zombies -- Haroldsen style!

A lot has been happening the past couple of months.

We went to Island Park in Idaho for spring snowmobiling:

Some Easter egg hunting:

Nathaniel had a birthday in April and turned 7:

Nick and I both had birthdays in May (sorry no pictures, we aren't as cute as the kids!)

McKayla's 2nd birthday was on Fathers Day this year:

Creating For Me

Being a stay at home mom, I sometimes feel trapped inside my own home. I have had a hard couple of weeks lately wondering what I'm doing and why. Being a mom can be a thankless job sometimes and I was running on empty. Each of the kids needing attention, trying to keep my house clean, figure out what is for dinner, referee the sibling love, kids taking their turn being sick, mommy being sick, the list can go on and on. It just all gets to be too much and I begin to lose myself and breakdown. I find that when I can create, I again start to find myself. It is something that I do that takes me away from being a mommy and wife and do something for myself. So I am always on the look out for a project to keep my juices flowing.

My latest project has been to redo my front room. I would love to have a room that is warm and welcoming. I have plans to repaint, but I'm still trying to pick out the color and find the time. I would also love new furniture, but that takes extra money. We have had our couch for over 7 years and I was beginning to get tired of it. It is still a good couch, just needed a change. I was laying awake one night and thought why not just make new pillows. Aha, a project for me, yah! So to the fabric store I head. I discovered that day shopping for fabric that I love to shop for fabric! I am not a shopper at all, but that day brought me joy and happiness. I wanted something with a splash of color, to add new life to my couch, and I found that. I usually like to stay neutral but I went with color that I think is bold but not overwhelming. The only problem is the store didn't have enough of the fabric I wanted so I could only cover three of the four pillows. I haven't decided if I like just three pillows or if I should order more of the fabric to make that last one. The best thing is that I made them into slipcovers, so I can easily change it back or even make more of a different fabric and change them out.

The way my couch used to look, it definitely needs a cleaning!

Now with a splash of color!

The red felt pillow is inspired by many of the creative blogs out there and these are how my turned out.

Plus I made two pillows to put on our window seat.
